Campus at the American International School of Cairo

My classroom at AISE was converted into instructional space from having been designed as a conference room.  It is the top arc of windows in the pictures below and to the left.  The metal Venetian blinds were not all that great for controlling light.  I had no light switch until the last couple months that I was there.  Every month I had to fill out a form to have the spent light bulbs (usually about half of the room) replaced.

The good things about that were that it had lots of natural light.  It also had a unique wedge-shaped floor plan.  The floor was carpeted; but, rarely, if ever, was it vacuumed.  The cleaning staff simply swept it with a large wisk broom.

The second year, an interactive whiteboard was installed and I really liked using it.  I got to keep the "Smartboard Notebook" software on my laptop.

There was an arched breezeway on the west arm of the building where the buses stopped to drop off riders.  The east wing is visible beyond on the left side of the picture above.

Standing in the same spot and rotating 180 degrees about, the buslane is shown.  The large building in the sitance is part of the Mubarek Police Academy.  The vacant land between is property graded and filled to build a new shopping mall.  They played in that dirt for the entire 2 years I was there.

The westwing was extended further south than the East wing.  The music rooms were there.  The veranda was a cooler place to stand when keeping an eye on students out at lunch time in the courtyard.

Further south in the back portion of the campus  was the structure that housed the swimming pool and the gymnasium.  The auditorium is the rightmost structure and is attached to the music rooms; but separated by a basketball court from the sports buildings beyond.

New villas were being built in the area south and west of the AISE campus.  The soccer field had to be watered most every day.

The track was paved with a sports fiber spongey material that would probably not last well in areas where it rained much more than it ever did in Cairo.

A peak time in the front corner garden.  One of the water towers for the Police Academy campus is in the background.

The seniors had a band set up on a stage for their carnival day.

Manufactured shade pergolas were needed most of the time for outdoor activities.

The hollyhocks were especially nice at AISE.  In that climate, they are not plagued by the inevitable mildews that ruin the foliage of ones grown in our moister zone.

The roses were very lovely too, and grown at many locations around the campus.
